The publishing industry is undergoing dramatic evolution in ways that are unsettling, frightening, and even downright disheartening to many writers. Poet and novelist Margaret Atwood made a presentation on this at the Tools of Change for Publishing conference in New York last week, and has posted a video on her blog.
The half-hour presentation addresses with insight and candor the predicament faced by authors in this dynamic environment, and should be watched by anyone thinking about publication. (Some of the most intriguing information comes to light during the Q&A session at the end, so don’t skip that part.) Best of all, she does it with a humorous blend of irony and encouragement that makes the whole prospect seem both realistic and hopeful.
Fix yourself a cup of tea and set aside a few minutes to spend with Ms. Atwood. You’ll be very glad you did.
